For a cause this Sunday

Some entertained for a cause
Some ensured the safety for a cause
Some encouraged for a cause,
Some enjoyed for a cause
N’d Some earnestly ran for a cause beyond their boundaries,…….

Pune marathon 26th Nov 06

An experience on its own… how could I think of starting a Sunday morning without hearing my dad’s voice and newspaper on my bed…nothing works when the hour comes… jumped in early along with my buddies to Deccan Gymkana to register ourselves before the mega event started… Thousands of people in pink and white shades sparkling bright on a well sunlit Nov…Though now and then the master of universe played the trick on us, it was for sure a very special day…What a unison I saw there. Men and Women of all races, young and old of all cultures, weak and strong people of all senses ran together for a cause with the steps trying to match to the dazzling music all way like the snake to the charmer…94 – 1.5 yrs, from black to white, from rich to poor all ran for the deadly thread of India…Something that we could do in a small way… tiny drops make the mighty ocean.

We were so engrossed in the event and the celebrities that we did not register almost till 8:00 am.. Shutter bugs all around from professionals to amateur’s trying their hand on all types of cameras to get a glimpse of Rahul bose, Mandira Bedi, Sonali Kulkarni, Rathi Agnihotri, Narayan Rane, Dhanraj Pillai and the major event organizer Suresh Kalmadi. Sponsored by Hutch network it was a real big event classified for under 17, under 19, 10 km run for men, 4.5 km run for general category, physically challenged and the mega 40 km run for the professionals…It was not the energy of the people to run that mattered but the enthusiasm to be a part of this cause on a early Sunday morning. It was surely breathless but at the same time rejuvenating. With sponsor banners flying high all through the 4.5 km stretch from Deccan to Neharu stadium it were a very different Pune for the day. School kids neatly clad in their uniform encouraged the participants with a big smile waving the flag and forming a beautiful human chain. Some local parties also exhibited the local traditional music and costume as they greeted the sweating enthusiasts.

Some MNC’s carried their own slogans and colors and reached to the final destination as a team. The Sancheti Ortho hospital had their troop in the official white coat. Paramedical attendees, in special identifiable dress code walked along with the crowd. Ambulances and fire engine splashed in prime location ensuring the safety of the thousands of people. We were a five of us who pooled in the same place from Cummins India, am sure there were many more in the crowd. It was true celebration as the crowd finished the event at Neharu stadium with pop and glory. It was for sure celebration time with the load speakers playing peppy numbers to which the crowd matched their steps…If you missed it, you still have a chance next year.
Fight for a cause in your own way till then
